The Division of Facilities Development & Management has 3 state owned facilities that have obtained LEED-EB certifications. The Agriculture Building achieved Silver Certification in 2009 and was the first state building certified in the State of WI. The LaCrosse State Office Building and GEF 2 State Office Building both achieved Gold Certifications in 2011.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - EB stands for Existing Buildings) Green Building Rating System is the internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings developed by the United States Green Building Council ( USGBC ).
LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five key areas of human environmental health: sustainable site development, water efficiency, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.
The achievement of LEED Certification not only brings economic benefits to the State of Wisconsin and its taxpayers, but it is also a model of sustainability that will continue to set the standard in the industry. Building Managment staff worked in conjunction with state agencies to achieve these certifications for our state facilities.
